چکیده

Thirty-six castrated male growing pigs were used to study the eVect of dietary beef tallow (BT) versus sunXower oil (SO) on meat quality and fatty acid composition of various tissues. The diets used contained either 5% (w/w) of the variable fat source. The fat type had no signiWcant eVect on carcass traits (carcass weight, back-fat thickness, fat-lean ratio) and meat quality (colour, pH1, pHU, drip losses, cooking losses, shear force, sacromere length, loin moisture, loin marbling). The diet with SO instead of BT signiWcantly increased the incorporation of polyunsaturated fatty acids in adipose tissues, loin and liver at the expense of the sum of saturated and monounsaturated fatty acids. In erythrocytes, the diet containing SO raised the contents of saturated and polyunsaturated fatty acids and lowered that of monounsaturated fatty acids. In particular, the SO diet produced an increase in the content of linoleic acid (C18:2n¡ 6) in the various tissues. It is concluded that feeding a diet with SO instead of BT altered the fatty acid composition of tissues without simultaneously aVecting various characteristics of meat quality. © 2006 Elsevier Ltd. I-7: Fatty Acids and Male Reproductive Function

Background Background: The fatty acid composition of the sperm membrane changes drastically during spermatogenesis and may be key to its function. Previous data has shown that intake of long chain poly-unsaturated fatty acids can change the fatty acid composition of tissues, including testes and sperm. However, whether these changes in composition translate into changes in semen quality or male...

The Role of Dietary Fat to Produce Chicken Meat as a Functional Food: A Review

Production of chicken meat is an important branch of food industry. Generally, poultry meat farmers aim to produce birds with superior body weight and feed conversion ratio. However, in line with current developments, there are other parameters that must to be taken into account such as lower body fat deposition and improvement in the nutrient composition of products corresponding to consumer r...

Feeding of Safflower (Carthamus tintorius) Cake in Small Ruminant Total Mixed Rations: Effects on Growth Traits and Meat Fatty Acid Composition

Little scientific information is available that has evaluated safflower (Carthamus tinctorius) cake as a substitute to conventional ingredients in small ruminants diet. The objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of feeding safflower cake in total mixed rations (TMRs) on lamb and kid growth rates, carcass traits and meat fatty acid composition. Two consecutive trials were conducted us...

Effect of fish oil replacement by poultry waste oil in feeds on growth parameters, chemical composition and fatty acid profile of rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss)

The present study aimed to investigate the effects of dietary fish oil replacement by poultry fat on growth performance and fillet quality, Oncorhynchus mykiss. Three diets were used in this experiment, containing different percentages of poultry fat (0% (D1), 50% (D2) and 100% (D3) replacement with fish oil. The fish were reared as three treatments; the fish fed D1 diet; the fish fed D2 diet; ...
